It seems like every other day there's a new design trend to learn, tool to master, and endless design-related articles to read. Honestly, it can be overwhelming and intimidating. I know because I've walked few miles in those shoes. So whether anyone is new to this field or simply looking for some guidance and support, I try to help them.
I try to function as a catalyst and challenge them to grow as designers and people. I am interested in the details and I try to encourage them to think, plan and dream.
These are the virtues I bring to all conversations.
No sugar coated critiques here. I care about their growth too much to not keep it real. We try to tear things down and rebuild them better, together.
To me, they are more than just a mentee. they are a designer — an industry peer. I’m not the only one teaching and you’re not the only one learning.
I don’t profess to be at the top of the design talent pool, because I know there is still much for me to master. Design is a moving target that I hunt everyday.
I don't have all the answers, but I'm happy to refer them to helpful resources and share what I've learned from my own personal design journey.
I know a thing or two because I've done a thing or two in my design career, and I'm committed to helping people and make use of that knowledge.
I empower them to strengthen their skills and confidence in their design tools.
I introduce them and assist them in setting foot in the door.
I try to point them in the direction of informative content and helpful products.
I assist them in discovering blind spots and accelerating their development.
I bring them into contact with other industry professionals and extend their reach.
